Nintendo Wii Shortage for Holidays
Well... this is bad news for many Christmas or should I say Holiday shoppers. The president of Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime, has said on the "record" that Nintendo Wii is unable to meet the Holiday demand. This came out of an interview with Mercury News, and you can find the transcript here (requires signup).
He claims it is because of a production issue. We are not totally convinced by that statement, but it is quite possible. The Nintendo Wii is quite a hot product and it's showing. The fly off the shelf so quickly that you'd have to pretty much live at a store to get one.
So what does this mean to you?
If you're a parent, you will need to consider eBay as the source if you do not wish to spend countless hours searching for one. eBay always has a plenty supply of Wii consoles from people either live in the middle of nowhere where the Wii isn't as popular or are just trying to make a few bucks. I think the small premium to buy it on eBay is well worth it. You should also check out the third party listings on Amazon. They are roughly the same price as eBay when you factor in shipping.
If you're a young gamer, I'd do whatever makes sense for you. The fastest way to get one is to either go through Amazon or eBay. If you like camping out, go for it. It could be a great experience you'll always remember. Maybe you'll meet some other crazy people like you. Just don't do it when you don't have to. Keep calling stores like crazy, but that's also risky because the employees might end up buying them all instead.
Some great sites to check out are slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com. They are sites designed for shoppers and they both have great forums where people will be talking about how to get the Nintendo Wii. Be sure to check them out.
Overall, buy the Nintendo Wii as soon as you can because prices will continually rise until January because of high demand. Better be safe than sorry.
